But some of them might know significantly more, especially if a professional repair technician immediately seeks out the seller, keen to buy the phone cheaply.
And there's some risk that the technician might know something about the phone you missed in your own evaluation. In financial markets, things are broadly similar. If another trader instantly accepts your quoted price on a live esports match, there's a risk they've reacted to new information faster than you have. That usually means widening spreads, reducing quote sizes, or simply stopping liquidity provision until things have calmed down. Their key objective is to protect their capital, rather than maximizing trade volume. As a result, the order book can become relatively thin just as the match becomes more interesting – meaning the moments when traders most want liquidity are often when the fewest participants are actually willing to offer it.
